The Importance of Continuing Swim Lesson Beyond the Summer Months

Summer has come to an end, and for many of us, swim lessons have come to an end also. Now we begin our fall sports such as soccer, football, and dance.  The fall weather changes our pace a bit and our weekends fill up quickly with new activities.

I'm a clear example of someone that has stopped swim lessons for my little ones once summer was over.  I thought... well they are not swimming much anymore. In reality not at all!  Plus Michigan is frozen for months and therefore I could justify not taking swim lessons in fall and winter.  It wasn't until this year that I changed my mindset and realized that swimming should be a priority year round if I wanted my young children to master this "life skill".

Swimming is a life skill that requires regular practice to master.  As a parent, I know that the sooner my children master basic swim skills, the sooner I can enjoy being around a pool.  If we don't provide children with the opportunity to grow as swimmers they will begin next summer a step below from where they ended this summer.  When I think of any sport, they all require practice for growth.  This also goes for swimming. In order to swim well you must swim.

Practicing our swim skills!

I am so proud of the growth my kids experienced this summer.  They swam a lot and the regular practice really helped them grow as swimmers.  After experiencing such amazing growth, I don't want them to loose these skills that they worked so hard to gain.  I believe that continuing lessons will be critical for their growth into next summer.

Small class sizes to work on skills.

We've experienced lessons at many different places but once attending Goldfish Swim School, we knew we found the perfect fit. Everything about Goldfish Swim School is geared toward children. The warm 90 degree pool, vibrant colors, mini showers, the colorful changing rooms, the cute hair dryers and even the live fish tank makes this place amazing!  My children absolutely love attending once a week.

  1. Yes! We love Goldfish! It's definitely harder to get to class during the colder months, but the benefits outweigh the odds for sure!

  6. I try to keep my kids swimming year round too so they don't lose their skills. I try to make sure when we book a hotel if we go somewhere in the winter that it has an indoor pool so we can get in a swim. We also have an indoor pool that does lessons like this one that is great.

    1. We skipped a few months last year and I noticed that it took my son a few weeks to gain his confidence back in the water. Now this year we are going to continue all year and I'm so glad we are! He is making us proud!

  7. Yes! It was easy when we lived in Arizona for the kids to swim year round but since we moved to Illinois 2 years ago they've barely swam at all. We need to be consistent year round.

  9. Looks like an awesome place! The closest one for us in over an hour away, so it's not an option for us. My kids do take lessons each summer in our local pond!

  11. I've never heard of Goldfish but I still think it's really important for every child to know how to swim. Living in Florida, it's definitely considered a life skill but it's also something that could unknowingly save your life. So it's definitely important!
