We had a horrible year of colds last year. If I had to guess, we surpassed the average number of 8. I bet we had one a month! It was TERRIBLE. Luckily we survived and hopefully we built some major immunity.
While sharing my frustration with a co-worker, she shared with me a very simple recipe she keeps on hand for building immunity and fighting off colds. This is a recipe she used as a child in China and now uses with her own children.
I love this simple immunity booster because all you need is two common ingredients..raw local honey and lemons. The reason for a local honey is because it is believed to help with local allergens. Of course, if you don't have a local honey readily available feel free to use any honey. I also prefer organic lemons because they are free of synthetic pesticides but this again is just a preference.
What you need:
- 2-3 large lemons
- Raw local honey
- jar
How to prepare:
This is so simple. Wash your lemons well. Cut into slices and place in jar. Keep the rind on the slices. Now pour honey over lemons. It will fill in the creases of the lemons. Cover and fill jar completely with honey. Place in refrigerator. After 3 days it should be ready to begin using. The lemon and the honey becomes a delicious liquid to use in teas and hot water.
Serve daily in hot water. I even add a tablespoon to my children's water bottles and even offer it by the spoonful. I personally love it by the spoonful as a cough syrup. It takes the scratchy feeling our throats get at times.
Make sure you store in the refrigerator and it lasts quite some time.

This is a great tip! I wish I would have had this before I got pneumonia earlier this year!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great idea. Our teenage daughter has done this and swears by it.
ReplyDeleteI wish my son would like honey! LOL He's got a chronic cough that sounds worse than it is, but won't take anything 'yucky' for it. I might try this for myself though - thanks!
ReplyDeleteYum and so good for you. I mix cinnamon and honey. It's tasty.
ReplyDeleteWe always do this lemon water minus the honey. we simply love the refreshing taste of it!
