Essential oils and their various health benefits are becoming popular among many as we are beginning to advocate for natural health products. Essential oils can be used to help promote relaxation, eliminate stress, purify the air, nourish the skin, and help eliminate aches and pains. They can be used to help regulate hormones and even fight inflammation. Oils can also be used for cleaning and disinfecting hard surfaces within the home.
The use of essential oils date back to the Egyptians where they used herbal medicine and oils to deepen meditation. The essential oil Frankincense was known as the "perfume of the gods". Today essential oils are widely used and sold anywhere from health food stores to online.
One oil in particular that is gaining popularity because of its medicinal properties is Helichrysum italicum. Helichrysum has been known for its antiallergenic, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and astringent properties. It's particularly used for the treatment of skin conditions such as psoriasis and eczema. Helichrysum is considered to be a non toxic, non-irritant safe oil and can be used on people of all ages.
A few drops of Helichrysum goes a long way. Whenever using essential oils, it is recommended that one uses a carrier oil when applying directly to the skin. Examples of carrier oils are jojoba oil, vitamin E oil, coconut oil, and almond oil. There are many ways you can mix essential oils with a carrier oil. You can do a few drops in your hand or make into a roller ball. An example of a roller ball blend is pictured below.

The story on how we started importing and bottling our own Helichrysum is worth its own post but I'll give you a little idea at how special this oil is to us. It all started with wanting to learn more about essential oils and their health benefits. Then came the communications with a small organic farm in Bosnia Herzegovina that inspired us to learn more. After much research and direct contact with the farm, we purchased some oil to share with you. We don't have intentions on bottling a lot of oil but we do believe that when we find something as wonderful as this organically grown Helichrysum, we must share at a price that is fair!
